The Fort Wayne Science Central offers educational programs and science knowledge and information to over 100,000 people each year. The educational programs include student field trips, demonstrations, labs, outreach, birthday parties, science camps, sleep-overs, and public lecture series.
The Fort Wayne Science Central opened in 1995 in the old City Light and Power Plant offering over 50,000 sq. ft. of space to house the exhibit space, a traveling exhibition area, a gift shop, three classrooms, one demonstration theater, and admin areas.
The Science Center serves visitors from Allen County, but also serves as a tourist attraction drawing people from a wide area. It's the only regional science and technology center.
The Science Center partners with museums, universities, school districts, radio and TV stations, libraries, and government agencies. Out-of-town visitors annually contribute approximately $1 million to the local economy and the Science Center employs approximately 50 people.
